Term 1 of my PhD is officially complete! This first stretch was a wonderful introduction to the program and genuinely affirming of my decision to pursue doctoral studies.
This term focused on Doctoral Seminar I, the foundational course for all Education doctoral students at UNB. I learned a great deal—about myself, my colleagues, the rhythms of academic life, and the evolving shape of my own doctoral project. Most importantly, I’ve started to accept that it’s completely okay (and totally normal) not to have everything figured out from the outset.
Next term continues with Doctoral Seminar II, and I’ll also begin preparing for my first comprehensive exam in the Winter. I’m excited for this next step—and, admittedly, a little nervous too.
For now, I’m looking forward to the holiday season and a chance to recharge!
